I have not had time to try the techniques suggested or visit the websites offering tutorials on values yet. I plan on using all the great insight that you have all shared with me. With all the comments and encouragement though - I just sat down and starting adding paint. No, it did not turn out like the masterpiece in my mind... but hey - as we've all discussed - it's about the doing!!!! So I am posting it for

Dana, it turned out great! After working with watercolors a little more I have learned that it is not an easy medium to work in. I think you have done a wonderful job and congratulate you on sticking with it, even if it's not the masterpiece you envisioned. Like I've said before, we are our own worst critics and hey, art is in the eye of the beholder. It doesn't have to be perfect, it just needs to be appealing and you've accomplished that here.

Dana, I think it turned out beautifully, but can certainly appreciate the whole 'not measuring up to the masterpiece I had in my own mind' effect. This has a lovely stillness yet the energy in the brush strokes allow for the slightest hint of a breeze to move those palm fronds.
