we watch them lose some of their spark.
At first we refuse to see they are aging,
sometimes frustrated with their change of person.
Ray (who we lost a few years ago) & Tillie (at 95 has just been diagnosed with a serious medical issue) Thank you from the bottom of my heart - you mean sooooo much to me |
We soon realize the fading is real,
and our towers of strength are becoming weak.
It's sad and scary for us and them,
realizing our losses and them that endings are near.
Look up and remember there are those who wait for them.
Loving arms open with wings in hand.
With heavy heart we eventually say good-bye,
and on their memories, lessons, and love we rely.
with love and respect, dana
You may have seen this before on my blog, it is a painting I did in honor of Ray & Tillie's, what would have been 75th anniversary last year. Ray had passed a few years earlier.

Hi Dana,
This brought tears to my eyes as I sit here at the kitchen table takig a spin through the SS blogs. Beautiful words. Hard to hear but so full of truth. Thank you for your love and enouragement during such a difficult time. Hugs
This is so beautiful and your words so true.
Your words are so true, I worked for years at a care home, and sat with many people who were ill or about to die; it was never easy, but always a wonderful experience, even if that sounds strange! Valerie
that's a beautiful painting in their honour, very touching post.
You are right, it is sad and scary but the story of life - we will see them again...I promise.
Very lovely and moving tribute. These are words I hope to remember and reflect on when the time comes that I need them.
It is a wonderful piece of art ~ and the poem is so expressive ~ having lost many 'loves' I am elated by your ability to express poetically ~ Thanks for stopping by my blog Share the Creative Journey from Sketch Sunday ~ namaste, Carol

lovely tribute piece.
A beautiful painting! Very touching words. You are lucky to have so many years with them.
this is one of the most beautiful things i have ever read - you have captured the feelings that so many of us children have as we watch our beloved parents grow older...something i have a very hard time with. thank you for this. hugs!
so beautiful Dana!
This is beautiful & helpful to all I think who have this experience but through the heartbreak forget you are not alone and it is only natural. Thank you for the share.
Hi Dana. What lovely insight to go with the amazing work of art. It is sad to see the fading light is all things: human, animal, the day. It always reminds me of our vulnerability. I think, in part, that is why many of us create...so that we may live on in some way.
Great words to go along with a great piece of art.
Hugs,
Penny
Beautiful post.
What a sweet tribute, and the birds are really pretty.
